Deeper Album Overview
On June 21 at SM-North EDSA's Skydome, Asia's Pop Sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose launched her sophomore album entitled Deeper. After the success of her self-entitled first album which is currently declared 9x platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry, the release of the second album was highly anticipated by her fans. On June 24, she had her first online gig on gmanetwork.com where she performed her new songs.
Deeper vs. the first album
I'd say Deeper is more personal than the first album given that 6 out of 10 of the songs here were composed by herself-- including the new version of Baby You Are. In the previous album, she only composed 2 out of the 11 songs. The new album also shows her versatility as a singer because it's more diverse in genre.
The only advantage of the first album that I could see is its physical appearance and packaging. It looked classier and thicker than the second album. Also, it has a more legitimate casing for the disc and a glossier lyric book. Below are photos of what you see when you open the albums. Blinded, Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang, and Never Had You are all about heartbreaks and ruined relationships. I wonder why she likes to write about these topics when she has got no experience in a serious relationship herself (at least as of this writing). Right Where You Belong is about long distant relationships; while Deeper and Baby You Are are about young love. Basically, most of her songs tackle romantic love so it is a great move that she included 3 tracks that do not tackle such. Diamond In My Eyes is an encouraging song. Tulad Mo is a very personal song about her journey as an artist. And Christ In Us, Our Hope Of Glory is a song of praise.
Right Where You Belong was made the carrier single and it has been released even before the album was launched. The Filipino dubbed version of the Korean drama entitled The Master's Sun even used it as its OST. It's already a favorite on the radio and its music video charted on Myx Philippines for a long time. The second single, Blinded, was also released as a single on itunes.

Overall, I'm really thankful that I bought the album. I think Julie Anne is a gem in the industry that is yet to shine brighter.
PS: For my personal favorites, I think my top three (in no particular order) includes Blinded, Right Where You Belong, and Tulad Mo. Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang also sounded great and easy to remember. :)
